Mike Osman The Impressionist

About Mike Osman

No stranger to being at the helm of a breakfast show, Mike Osman wakes you up every weekday morning here at Great British Radio. His impressions are legendary, you’ll be left wondering if it really is Chris Tarrant or not!

Born in: the ’50s
Greatest music came from: ’70s
Greatest comedy show: Only Fools and Horses – Batman and Robin will never be topped!
Greatest guest I’d like to interview: JK Rowling
Greatest thing about radio: Catching a great song when you don’t expect it!

Mike faced the Great British Radio Quick Fire Question Round. Get to know him better:

GBR: Tea or coffee?
MO: Tea

GBR: Most famous person in your contact list?
MO: My old mate Chris Tarrant

GBR: Favourite place in the UK and why?
MO: Cornwall! There’s a beach called Watergate Bay, the old Atlantic swells coming in. I love the water being ex-Royal Navy!

GBR: Alright – stop waffling! McDonald’s or KFC?
MO: McDonald’s!

GBR: Favourite place in the world and why?
MO: Majorca, I’ve been there about 25 times and it’s bliss. The same hotel every time, I love the staff!

GBR: And how many towels have you snuck back over the years?!
MO: Those and dressing gowns and slippers! Plenty of ’em!

GBR: Any siblings?
MO: Six brothers!

GBR: Do you say scone like cone or scone like gone?
MO: Scone as in gone!

GBR: Jam or cream first?
MO: Jam – always!

GBR: Anyone living or past that you’d love to meet?
MO: Winston Churchill

GBR: Red or white wine?
MO: Red – I’m a rioja man, a bit spicy and fruity – I love that!

GBR: Family hero and why?
MO: My Grandad. Grandad Charlie. He always said we should be called Ose-man (like hose or nose). But Jimmy Tarbuck introduced me at Live from the Palladium as Mike Osman (like Oz) and that’s always stuck! So Grandad was a bit upset but he was working on the Spitfires when they were being built in Southampton.

GBR: What did you want to be when you grew up?
MO: I always wanted to be an entertainer but I don’t know if I ever achieved that?!

GBR: What were your exam results when you left school?
MO: They were poor! But I did get a CSE Grade 1 in Metalwork and I went on to become a Fitter and Turner before I left to join the Royal Navy.

GBR: How many of your school friends do you still see?
MO: A few, usually bumping into them at Sainsburys!

GBR: Favourite book you like to colour in?
MO: Oi! I’m a massive reader actually.

GBR: Ant or Dec?
MO: I know I always ask this! And now suddenly the boot’s on the other foot! I’m going to go Dec.

GBR: Summer or winter?
MO: Summer!

GBR: Fish and chips or curry?
MO: Curry!

GBR: Who is your hero and why?
MO: Chris Tarrant! We were both at Capital at the same time, he was on Capital FM and I was on Gold and I admired him and looked up to him and he’s probably the best broadcaster in this country. And of course I made a living out of impersonating him for the last twenty years or more! Haha – teehee.

GBR: Dogs or cats?
MO: Dogs!

GBR: Sweet or savoury?
MO: Savoury all the way! I love a Cornish pasty, sausage roll, scotch egg – anything like that, with a pickled onion, that’ll do!

GBR: Steak or lobster?
MO: Steak, it’s gotta be! Lobster’s a bit rubbery for me but maybe I just had a bad one!

GBR: Saints or Pompey?
MO: Saints always of course “Come on you Saints!”!

GBR: Saints or Bubble and Squeak?
MO: Bubble and Squeak!

GBR: Favourite song and why?
MO: “Have You Seen Her” by The Chi-Lites, it means a lot to me and my lovely wife, Jill.
